The Croton Petra (Codiaeum variegatum ‘Petra’) is an evergreen shrub native to southern Asia and the western Pacific islands. It prefers hot, humid weather and grows only in U. S. Department of Agriculture zones 9b through 11. In other climates, Croton can be grown in containers and kept indoors during cold weather.

Description
Watering:
Water once a week and allow it to dry completely between waterings.
Fertilizer:
Croton fertilizer target ratios of 3-1-2 and 8-2-10 are two good choices.
Re-potting:
For the first three growing seasons, re-pot a young croton every year in the spring or early summer. After that, only re-pot when you notice roots growing out of the drainage holes.
Temperature:
Temperatures between 15.5 to 21 degrees Celsius are ideal for this plant. In the winter, keep your Croton Petra away from draughts and cold spots, such as a windowpane.
